We were honored to recently welcome U.S. Senator Andy Kim to the Rescue Mission of Trenton, where he spent time learning firsthand about our work feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and counseling those in recovery.
During his visit, Senator Kim met with our volunteers and staff to hear about the daily challenges facing the people we serve and to discuss how elected officials can better support organizations providing direct assistance on the ground. A key topic of conversation was the potential impact of proposed federal cuts to HUD’s Continuum of Care program — the largest federal funding stream for homelessness assistance — which would be devastating for programs like ours across New Jersey.
Our own staff member Miquia Delvalle shared her powerful personal story of transformation through the Rescue Mission, reminding everyone that what we do here works — but only when it’s sustained with consistent support and funding.
Senator Kim, who serves on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, has been a champion for housing legislation, including provisions in the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
